Monofins

Monofins are what powers a mermaid through the water! You cannot get in a tail without one. If you are attending a Mermaid Course, we have Linden monofins for you to use. It is very important that you have a reputable monofin - cheap knockoffs can be very unsafe.

Bi-fins

To become a certified PADI Mermaid or PADI Advanced Mermaid, you will need a set of bi-fins! They are necessary for acting as a safety to a mermaid. They also make underwater videography way easier, it is quite difficult to hold a camera still while wearing a monofin.

Swimmable Mermaid Tails

Here are the Songbird Siren Productions Approved mermaid tail makers!

You need a monofin to swim in a mermaid tail! You do not need a mermaid tail to attend a Mermaid Course.

Mermaiding is an industry based on small, artist-owned businesses. It is very important that you purchase your tail from a reputable company.

Wetsuits

Wetsuits are highly recommended if you are taking a Mermaid Course in a lake, spring, or ocean. We will be submerged for a few hours at a time, your body may lose more heat than you think it will. We recommend the brands below. Cheaper quality wetsuits will still keep you warmer than nothing, but they will allow more cold water to seep in due to the lack of seam sealing.

Neoprene Accessories

Neoprene socks make a huge difference in your ability to tolerate cooler water temperatures. Even in my toasty warm wetsuit, if my feet are cold, I won’t be able to stay in as long. They are also a must-have if you are prone to blisters from your monofin or bi-fins like I am. I cannot encourage neoprene socks enough!!

Masks and Snorkels

Mermaids train in masks! Protect your eyes and sinuses - and see the wonderful underwater world around you. A mask and snorkel is required for all of our Mermaid Courses.

Weight Belts and Weights

As a PADI Mermaid, you will learn how to weight yourself for proper buoyancy. Wetsuits make you extra buoyant, and so does salt water. Some people are naturally very floaty and have trouble getting and/or staying below the surface. Weights are here to help! Do not attempt to weight yourself without a trained professional present.

Wig Accessories

Keeping a wig on underwater can be tricky. I put my hair into french braids, clip my wig cap down above the ears with wig clips, glue the wig lace down with water resistant wig glue, and pin the wig down with SO MANY U pins. There’s never too many pins.

Sun and Hair Protection

Sun protection is an absolute must for mermaids and humans alike. Unlike other brands, Blue Lizard is not harmful to any aquatic environments.

The first thing you should do to protect your hair as a swimmer is get it wet with freshwater before getting in chlorine or saltwater. After that, use AquaGuard or a strong conditioner to keep your hair healthy.

Camera Gear

This is all the camera gear I regularly use for all of my underwater needs. The GoPro Bundles are often overpriced and contain items that you don’t need, I found it best to buy the pieces I wanted individually.
